Mouthwash

I get asked about mouthwash a lot, so this is a placeholder page to point people to helpful resources I come across:

• For commercial products:
  • The Environmental Working Group has a guide to mouthwashes with ingredient risk ratings.
  • GoodGuide has a similar guide to mouthwashes rated by their impact on health, the environment, and society.
• For making your own at home:
  • Scott Schlegel has a guide to making mouthwash that I suspect will be effective. I like his approach of throwing every ingredient you can at the problem, along the lines of his recent success with treating toenail fungus.
  • For some of the other homemade mouthwash guides out there, I'd suggest being cautious of the ones with essential oils in case of absorption through the tissues of the mouth.
