Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) supplements with the fewest additives
Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) may help manage cholesterol/triglycerides, rheumatoid arthritis, and acne. However, many B5 supplements contain more than just the pantothenic acid. For example, silica or silicon dioxide are often added to prevent caking, magnesium stearate or stearic acid for easier manufacturing, hypromellose (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose) as an emulsifier or thickener, and gums to bind ingredients together.
I try to avoid these additives because they may have questionable health effects. If you want to do the same, my recommendations are:
Recommended for a no-additive B5 capsules
- silica-free / silicon-dioxide-free
- stearic acid-free / magnesium stearate-free
- hypromellose-free / hydroxypropyl methylcellulose-free
- free of gums
Pantothenic acid (as calcium d-pantothenate), gelatin capsule.
Recommended for straight B5 powders
I no longer know of a source for the Japanese-produced pantothenic acid powder I previously recommended. If you have a source, please let me know in the comments. In the meantime, I'd suggest either of the following:

- stearic acid-free / magnesium stearate-free
- hypromellose-free / hydroxypropyl methylcellulose-free
- free of gums
